Lincoln Town-truck-what?
The fact that this is somewhere in Asia baffles me.

Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable at 1985 Chicago Auto Show
This was when the Taurus was supposed to be the biggest fucking deal in the history of the automobile…
I wasn’t born yet, but the way I see it, it blew people’s minds for no other reason than its styling and shape. It was revolutionary in looks in an era of boxiness (Though I think a lot of the boxier cars of the mid 80’s look nicer today than a first gen Taurus does when I see them.) Ford’s always been very good at updating their cars. They make the outgoing model look like a piece of shit instantly. If you don’t believe me, take a look at the 5th generation Taurus in comparison to the newest ones…
Interesting juxtaposition I saw at a local car show. The 89’ Mercury Colony Park was more interesting than the Z06 Vette in my opinion…in mint condition too…
ON THE STREET: early 80’s Mercury Capri
Pretty much the essence of rebadging, but in this case, its not a total mess. They made these from 79-86 and I actually think the redesigned front end and tailights (the only thing that separated it from the Ford) looked better than the faces and butts of early 80’s Mustangs.
I knew this crazy fucker who had a spray painted 85 Capri with a 400 and its original 4 speed that barely shifted…it was pretty badass, but not nearly as nice as this example I see in the morning on the way to school.
Whoever walked into the board room at Ford Motor Company and said “I think Mercury needs a Mustang rebadge!” should get a pat on the back for having the sheer nerve to suggest it.

The Panther Platform (1979-2011) is the best thing the Ford Motor Company ever did.
Ford: Crown Victoria, LTD, Country Squire, Police Interceptor
Mercury: Marquis, Grand Marquis, Colony Park, Marauder
Lincoln: Continental, Continental Mark VI, Town Car
Ask a taxi driver, a limo driver or that old guy down the street who’s been driving Grand Marquis’ since 1980.
-A brown 89 Grand Marquis was the first car I was in at over 95mph
- My 93 Towncar (called Teddy) was phenomenal
- I rented a ‘10 Grand Marquis this year and it was great I drove the shit out of it (24mpg)
- One day I promise to own a Crown Vic Interceptor and make myself look like a cop and scare teenagers.
RIP Panther Platform
I guess if I was a Chevy Corsica I’d need some lovin’ too
